Gunnar first to finish Albert Tumenov
Gunnar put on a real display when he beat the highly touted Russian Albert Tumenov at UFC Fight Night 87 in Rotterdam, Netherlands on Sunday May 8th. Gunnar came in as the underdog in a fight that most people consider a grappler vs. striker fight as Tumenov is know for his boxing skill and ko power. But is was Gunnar who was getting the better of Tumenov on the feet, starting with aggressive strikes and landing a one-two punch combo as well as a left hook to the body. Tumenov reddened Nelson's body with a powerful punch. Little over two minutes into the first round Gunnar took Tumenov down and mounted him easily. From there he landed some very good elbow strikes but lost his balance in one of them and Tumenov was able to get to his feet with 30 seconds left of the round.
The second round started much like the first had with Gunnar if anything getting the better of Tumenov with his strikes and then landing a beautiful takedown one and half minute into the round. Gunnar again seamlessly mounted the Russian and took his back when Tumenov turned trying to escape mount. From there it was only a matter of time. Gunnar locked in his famous body triangle and finished Tumenov with a RNC 3:15 minutes into the round. Very convincing triumph by Gunnar Nelson that won him the Performance of the Night in Rotterdam.
