Flawless win at UFC 189 - Biggest card in UFC history
UFC 189 at MGM Arena in Vegas Saturday night was the biggest night in UFC history. And what a night to remember. The main card was without a doubt the best main card ever with 5 spectacular fights. Gunnar Nelson vs. Brandon Thatch was the second fight on the card and Gunnar had the odds against him on all betting sites against one of the most feared and biggest strikers in the UFC welterweight. However Gunnar didn’t care and had the best performance of his MMA career by defeating the feared striker 2:24 minute into the first round.
Gunnar meet Brandon in the middle of the Octagon from the beginning of the fight and floored Brandon with a beautiful timed left hook straight right combo just 1:30 minute into the fight. After that is was Gunnar’s world. He moved around Thatch from mount, to side control and back to mount all the time landing shots.
Thatch gave up his back in an attempt to escape but things only went from bad to worse for him. Gunnar took his back with ease, locked him with a body triangle and easily submitted him with at RNC at the 2:54 mark of Round one. Great win for Gunnar in his USA debut at the biggest UFC card in history.
On the prelims Gunnar’s teammate Cathal Pendred had suffered his first UFC loss after a split decision against John Howard. And in the main event another teammate of Gunnar, Conor McGregor defeated Chad Mendes for the interim featherweight belt.
